Team Spotlight: John Lineberger, VP of Insurance Operations at Get Covered

At Get Covered, insurance isn’t just a back-office function — it’s a core driver of innovation, compliance, and client trust. Few people embody that more than John Lineberger, VP of Insurance Operations. With a sharp eye for detail, a deep love of the industry (yes, really), and a healthy sense of humor about it all, John plays a pivotal role in shaping how Get Covered delivers smarter, more scalable insurance solutions for multifamily operators.

Falling in Love with Insurance (Yes, It Happens)

John’s path into insurance wasn’t sparked by a single moment, it was more of a realization.
He discovered early on that not only could he stay awake during conversations about policies and loss development triangles, he actually found them interesting. That’s when he knew insurance wasn’t just a job, it was a calling.

The Challenge (and Reward) of Insurance Operations

Overseeing insurance operations means no two days look the same. According to John, that’s part of the fun.
One of the biggest challenges today is managing compliance across multiple state jurisdictions — something he compares to playing 50 different chess games at once. Each state has its own rules around policy forms, cancellation notices, premium taxes, and licensing requirements. What works in Georgia might not work in California (a state John jokes seems to invent new rules every Tuesday).
The rewards? Designing insurance solutions that solve real problems for clients. John is especially proud of creating captive structures that give property management companies more control over their risk. And when those wins happen, they’re celebrated properly — with a warm chocolate chip cookie (always with sprinkles) and a glass of milk.

Where the Insurance Industry Is Headed

Looking ahead, John sees massive transformation driven by AI.
Instant underwriting decisions with dramatically improved risk selection accuracy are becoming the norm. Claims automation is compressing timelines from weeks to days, or even hours. The result is better operational efficiency and a vastly improved client experience — a welcome evolution for an industry that, by its own surveys, has historically set a pretty low bar.

What Sets Get Covered Apart

While many things differentiate Get Covered, John points to one standout: innovation.
At the start of 2025, Get Covered fully embraced AI from both development and innovation perspectives, positioning the company at the forefront of InsurTech transformation in multifamily. It may even make Get Covered one of the few places where people are genuinely excited about both artificial intelligence and renters insurance.
Equally important is Get Covered’s consultative approach. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all products, the team actively engages with property management clients to understand their pain points, then builds technology-enabled insurance solutions to address them. That client-centric mindset creates a dynamic work environment and delivers meaningful, customized risk management solutions. As a bonus, John now finally has something interesting to talk about at dinner parties, instead of loss ratios.

Advice for Anyone Starting Out in Insurance

John’s advice is simple but powerful: become an expert.
Insurance is incredibly broad, and trying to master everything is nearly impossible. Instead, find a niche and go deep — whether that’s renters insurance, captive structures, pet health, flood, or cyber risk. Become the person people call when they have a weird question. (And yes, weird questions make up about 90% of the job.) You’ll either be seen as weirdly brilliant… or just weird.

Life Outside the Spreadsheets

Outside of work, John’s version of a wild Friday night involves debating whether certain insurance reserves comply with GAAP accounting standards — his wife is an accountant, after all.
When it’s truly time to unplug, they head to the North Georgia mountains for a hike. The goal? Fresh air, great views, and just enough distance from civilization to avoid spreadsheets for a few blissful hours.
John’s expertise, curiosity, and humor make him an invaluable part of the Get Covered team. Whether he’s navigating multi-state compliance, building innovative insurance structures, or helping shape the future of InsurTech, one thing’s clear: insurance is in very good hands.
